UPT began as an R&D firm solving complex surface erosion issues faced by military equipment. It started with engineering solutions for windscreen degradation and rotor blade leading edge erosion on the UH-60 platform. Fast forward 20 years and United Protective Technologies is a leader in surface protection for both military and commercial application.
With a balance of technical disciplines on staff, our ability to review, analyze and understand substrate interaction continues to yield new Intellectual Property.

Superhydrophobic Coatings

As part of our ever-expanding coating catalog, UPT has developed superhydrophobic coatings that outperform traditional hydrophobic coatings. Renowned for their non-fouling characteristics, these coatings are passively icephobic, low-weight, field applicable, field repairable, and can also be engineered to exhibit oleophobic properties.

Problem  - Nickel Strip thickness measurement on UH-60M main rotor blades weren't accurate, which lead to unnecessary maintenance and replacement.
Solution  - UPT developed a simple, handheld measurement device & a training website which demonstrates proper usage.

Problem  - Frequency of broken airframe windshields due to impact. Resulting in significant replacement cost and maintenance.
Solution  - UPT developed a sacrificial film that absorbs impact and conducts potentially harmful electrostatic charge.


Problem  - Threat detection sensor coatings failed in theater operation.
Solution  - UPT developed an advanced coating with increased durability which is also tuned for optical performance, both transmission and reflection.
