Technical Writer


Hours typically are 8-5 but flexibility is an option for this type of position.

UPT is seeking self-motivated, well-rounded full or part-time Technical Writer to produce high-quality documentation that contributes to the overall success of our projects. As a Technical Writer, you will work collaboratively with the UPT team to create documentation to be delivered to our customers.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop MS Word and Power Point templates to be used for used for the creation of future documents and presentations
  • Work with internal project teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the projects and the documentation requirements
  • Coordinate with the team to get the technical information needed to produce high-quality documentation that meets applicable standards
  • Maintain an approachable demeanor and a positive can-do attitude  
  • Self-motivated, self-disciplined, and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Write new content in the style that is most suitable for each target audience
  • Review, format, and finalize publications and technical communications ensuring consistent style, formatting, and brand messaging


Required Qualifications:

·        Education: Bachelor or master’s degree in Technical Writing or equivalent

·        At least 2 years of experience in technical writing

·        Ability to deliver high quality documentation paying attention to detail

  • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures
  • Excellent written skills in English
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Products
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Experience working with engineering teams
  • Ability to handle a broad range of tasks with multiple priorities
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to be on site 50% of the time
  • Experience using graphic design tools to create high quality presentations, documents, and  brochures
  • Must be a US  Citizen

Desired Qualifications:

·        Experience in creating documents following Department of Defense Data Item Description guidelines

  • Five years or more experience in Technical Writing
  • Experience working in defense industry in a project environment


 Education: Bachelor or master’s degree in Technical Writing or equivalent

Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
