Research Engineer/Scientist



Job Description UPT is currently searching for an experienced research engineer to join our ranks and continue our tradition of success with programs that support the Department of Defense. The ideal candidate will be highly creative and possess the ability to apply broad engineering principles to formulate and optimize process designs; understand the implications of reaction engineering, material science, tribology, and vacuum technologies on project teams.

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities

  • Work closely with DoD project sponsor, cross-functional teams, and assigned program managers to plan and develop scope, deliverables, required resources, work plan and timing for current and new initiatives
  • Manage technical direction of development programs
  • Work with program manager to identify risks and opportunities across multiple projects within the department
  • Prepare written technical reports or verbal presentations for customers, project teams, and management
  • Perform other duties as assigned and able to be flexible with working hours as dictated by project needs

Required Qualifications:

Required Skills and Minimal Qualifications

Master’s degree in Engineering

 8+ years in an advanced engineering role

Exceptional leadership, time management, facilitation, and organizational skills

Strong working knowledge of thin film deposition techniques

Must be a US citizen

Outstanding verbal and written communication skills

Excellent engineering documentation ability

Expertise in MS Office Suite

Ability to acquire and maintain secret security clearance

Desired Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering or Material Science
  • Previous DoD program management skills 
  • Proven proposal writing experience


Master’s degree in Engineering

8+ years in an advanced engineering role

Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
