M-F; 8am-5pm (no weekends)

As a Mechanical Engineer at UPT, you will work with a multidisciplinary team of research and development engineers and support staff to design and innovate new products, redesign existing products, and perform research and testing on product concepts.

Responsibilities:

Job Description: As a Mechanical Engineer at UPT, you will work with a multidisciplinary team of research and development engineers and support staff to design and innovate new products, redesign existing products, and perform research and testing on product concepts. This person will also use their excellent creativity, engineering judgment and analysis skills to develop design requirements. Our mechanical engineer will be hands-on and self-motivated, with a high interest and curiosity mindset towards the latest engineering technology and rising trends to capitalize on emerging markets. You will work under the direction of our Program Manager. Occasional travel from site to site (Charlotte/Locust/future UPT sites) with some travel needed for kick-off meetings and visiting customer sites. You will be working in an office environment with hands-on Mechanical Engineering job tasks sometimes in our lab or warehouse as it relates to a project. Must be able to lift, bend, and perform physical duties from time to time as it relates to the engineering tasks at hand.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: BS ME

• Mechanical Engineer with 5+ years’ experience involved in clean sheet design and development engineering

• Designing innovative solutions for thermal, mechanical, and human factor challenges with a deep understanding of mechanical system efficiency, physics, and thermodynamics

• 3+ years’ experience in project leadership

• 3+ years of professional CAD experience

• FEA experience  

• Experience designing and integrating control system hardware

• Experience with 3D printing, rapid prototyping, testing and an understanding of manufacturing processes

• Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, autonomously driven, and demanding atmosphere

• Proficient in MS Office (i.e., Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)

• Strong oral & written communication and presentation skills

• Ability to self-direct and independently solve problems

• Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen

• Occasional project related travel in the US required

• MUST BE A US CITIZEN

• Physical requirements: Work is performed in an office/lab/warehouse environment. Must have the ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

Desired Qualifications:

• Education: MS or higher in Mechanical Engineering

• Managing design research projects

• Experience working with multidisciplinary and distributed teams

• Professional experience with testing and correlating simulations with physical experiments

• Involvement with the development of new products

• Understanding of SBIR and military R&D processes

• Experience developing and executing test plans for MIL-STD requirements

• Experience designing coating deposition technologies and evaluating functional coating performance

• Patents, Publications, conference presentations

 

Experience:

• Education: BS ME
